Frequently Asked Questions

How much does this cost?

The intake, or first session, is $220 and each follow-up session is $200 (50 minutes) or $120 (30 minutes).

How long is the treatment?

Sessions can be booked for 30 minutes or 50 minutes. The number of sessions depends on the treatment and severity of symptoms but are typically between 6 and 20 sessions.

Why is an intake more expensive than follow up sessions?

The first session requires more administrative work before and after session including managing paperwork and the initial set up for a new client.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. When clients use insurance, the insurance companies can dictate the frequency of sessions, length of treatment, and require a mental health diagnosis for reimbursement. This can often affect the quality of care that a client receives. Additionally, providers who take insurance are required to send sensitive, personal information about their client to the insurance company to receive reimbursement. I want to have the freedom to provide the right treatment and also be able to protect my clients’ privacy.

How can I afford this treatment if you don’t take insurance?

Therapy is an investment in your physical and mental health that can pay off exponentially over time. Managing stress and getting enough rest can mean being more successful and productive in your career or your business. Evidenced-based therapy is also significantly shorter in duration than supportive or psychodynamic types of therapies. It may be helpful to look at reducing your expenses for a short period of time to afford this treatment.

If you have a Health Savings Account, you can use pre-tax dollars to pay for therapy. Another option is to use your out-of-network insurance plan benefits. I would be happy to provide you with proof of payments called superbills that you can submit to your insurance and, if the treatment is covered, will reimburse you directly. It is important to you check with your insurance carrier about this before beginning treatment. You may also check to see if your employer has an Employee Assistance Program which typically covers the cost of six sessions of therapy.

What problems do you treat?

I can treat many problems that create stress such as anxiety, insomnia, depression, binge eating, trauma, burnout, low self-esteem, poor boundaries, and procrastination. I can help with stopping unhealthy behaviors such as smoking, over working, and spending too much money. I can also help with increasing healthy behaviors such as eating a balanced diet, exercising more, and managing chronic health conditions.

What times do you have sessions?

I have workday evening hours available to accommodate clients who can’t or don’t want to take time off of work. I also have morning and afternoon appointments available on Mondays.

Do you see clients in person?

I do not see clients in person as my practice is 100% online. Research has shown that video telehealth is just as effective as in-person sessions. Additionally, many clients appreciate online sessions because they do not lose time driving, they don’t have to worry about traffic, parking, or childcare. Clients love being in the comfort of their own homes and find it easier to fit therapy into their busy lives.

How does video telehealth work?

Video telehealth, or online therapy, works similarly to Facetime, Zoom, or any other video chat that you may have used. I use HIPAA compliant programs that protect your privacy. You will need a reliable internet connection, an email address, a computer or smartphone with a camera and microphone, and a private, quiet space where you can have a session. At the time of our appointment, you click on a link provided to you by email and a video chat will be created where we can see and hear each other. I will walk you through how to do all this in our first session or we can try during your consultation so you can see if it would be a good fit for you.

What will I be doing in therapy?

Before our first session, I will send you measures to complete along with the informed consent form. These measures will help me to gauge the severity of your symptoms and tailor an individualized approach for treatment. During your intake, I will ask you lots of questions to fully understand your problem and how we can make effective changes. We will develop a treatment plan together.

In follow up sessions, we will discuss behavioral and cognitive strategies to effectively manage symptoms. Our last session will be a review of material that was covered and a plan you can use on your own going forward.
